You know exercise is important in meeting your weight loss goals, so why aren’t you doing it? If the producers of Family Feud asked that question in a survey of 100 people, it’s likely that the top answer would be, “I don’t have time!”.
Between the demands of a career, housework, taking care of children, social obligations, and a mile-long to-do list, it’s pretty common to let workouts slide. After all, “working out” means you have to get dressed in exercise clothes, drive to the gym, work out for an hour, and drive home… or does it?
It’s important to let go of the “all or nothing” mentality. If you only have 15 minutes, then squeeze in a mini-workout! Anything and everything you do can be beneficial to your weight loss goals, so try squeezing in these short workouts once or twice per day:
- Keep running shoes in your car or office. On your lunch break, or before or after work, go for a 15 minute walk. Accelerate to maximum speed for a minute or two, and then slow down until you feel recovered. Accelerate again, and alternate this pattern until you’re able to speed-walk or jog consistently.
- Buy a jump rope and stash it with those running shoes (Bonus: jump ropes are cheap, so there goes your “I can’t afford to work out” excuse!) Jump rope for 15 minutes on your afternoon break, or while dinner is simmering on the stove (Go outside first!) If you want to change it up to prevent workout boredom, try alternating feet, skipping, or jumping rope to music.
- Tone up anywhere! There are a variety of toning exercises you can do at home or in your office. Do pushups using your desk as support for your arms, leg lifts while holding onto a wall, or free-standing squats. There are plenty of toning exercises that use only your body weight as resistance, so you don’t need any special gym equipment and there’s no need to go anywhere!
