When you think of weight loss success, do you think of counting calories, exercise schedules, nutritional supplements or metabolism boosters? Those may be the first things on your mind, but they’re actually not the most important ingredients to success. Those things are merely tools that you can use to succeed. Meanwhile, your attitude determines whether or not you will stick with your plans and use those tools correctly.
So what’s an attitude, anyway? In a nutshell, your attitude determines how you view and relate to the world. It also affects how you respond to circumstances and events in your life. As you already know, an attitude can be positive or negative.
There are several key differences between positive and negative attitudes. For example, someone with a negative attitude dwells on problems, while someone with a positive attitude sees a challenge. When you change your attitude from negative to positive, a bad situation becomes an opportunity for growth and change. Growth and change are exactly what will drive your weight loss success!
Your attitude isn’t static, luckily. Attitudes can and do change over time. If you have a negative attitude, recognizing it is the first step to changing it. Then you have to make a consistent effort to change your inner monologue on a daily basis.
For example, instead of thinking, “I’ll always be overweight”, you change that statement to “Many people have succeeded in losing weight. There is no reason that I can’t!” Or if you find yourself thinking, “None of the weight loss plans I’ve tried in the past ever worked”, change that thought to, “It took me a while to find something that worked for me. I’m so glad I found it now!”
In the beginning, it will require constant, daily effort to change your attitude. But after a while, your new thought patterns will become habit, and you’ll find that your new positive attitude is part of who you are. More importantly, you will find that your positive attitude leads to terrific weight loss results!
